San Jacinto Elementary School
Parent Involvement Policy
2009-2010
I. Statement of Purpose
AISD’s mission statement is as follows: “Engaging each student in learning experiences that result in high achievement.” San Jacinto Elementary School’s belief statements include: “We believe that a collaborative and positive relationship between the school and the family will be a powerful factor in the success of the student. Both AISD and San Jacinto are committed to helping students reach their potential while maintaining close ties to families and the community. We welcome and strongly encourage parent involvement in all parts of our students’ education.
II. Parent Involvement in Developing the Policy
Our Site Based Decision Making Committee is made up of teachers, community members, and parents. We also have a Parent Council which assists us in making decisions.
III. Annual Meetings for Title I Parents
Each fall we have a No Excuses University Night in which all parents are invited to school. We provide information about Title I services on that night. This year we did this over 2 nights in order to accommodate the enormous crowd.
In January of each year, each parent will have the opportunity to have a one on one parent conference with the teacher. During this meeting, the student’s progress will be discussed and other information will be provided regarding Title I services.
IV. School-Parent Compact
San Jacinto’s School-Parent Compact (also known as the “No Excuses University Pledge) was developed with the help of the Parent Council. The compact describes the expectations for students, teachers, and parents in our goal of seeing that all San Jacinto students attend some form of post secondary education in order to have a prosperous future.
V. Matching Programs to the Needs of Your Community
Surveys will be sent home to assess the needs of families and children in the community. Parent trainings are provided in literacy and areas of concern or need. Parents are notified of these trainings through weekly letters sent home with students.
VI. Staff/Parent Communication
Communication with families occurs weekly through the use of the Tuesday Folder. Families are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher at any time.
